Orange Pekoe ‘A’ (OPA), Orange Pekoe (OP), Orange Pekoe 1 (OP1), Broken Orange Pekoe 1 (BOP1), Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe (FBOP), Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe (FBOP1), Flowery Fanning’s 1(FF1), Flowery Fanning’s (FF), Flowery Special (FSP), Broken Orange Pekoe A (BOPA), Broken Mix (BM), Broken Orange Pekoe 1A (BOP1A), Broken Pekoe (BP), BT, DUST, FGS, Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) are some of the tea varieties that Browns Plantations manufactures under orthodox method. Broken Pekoe Special (BPS), Broken Pekoe 1 (BP1), Broken Pekoe Leaf (BPL), Pekoe Fanning’s 1 (PF1), and Pekoe Dust (PD) are tea varieties manufactured under the CTC method and can be categorised into broken grade, fanning and dust grades.
Grown and Manufactured at Maturata, Hapugastenne, and Udapusellawa plantations scattered in the Central Highlands and Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka, our Ceylon Black Tea belongs to High Grown, Medium Grown and Low Grown tea regions, and provides a rich diversity in flavour and aroma to the world’s favourite cup of tea.
Ceylon Black Tea contains the most amount of caffeine out of all tea types. One cup of Ceylon Black Tea contains 50-90 mg of caffeine per cup. Ceylon Black Tea is the perfect alternative to all coffee addicts.
Ceylon Black Tea which contains the antioxidants called flavonoids reduces the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, elevated triglyceride levels, and obesity.
Antioxidants named polyphenols reduces the risk of type-2 Diabetes. Studies suggest that drinking Ceylon Black Tea increases insulin sensitivity.
Although Black Tea doesn’t cure cancer 100%, It will help reduce the risk of it.
Ceylon Black Tea contains L-theanine and caffeine, amino acids, increase focus. The calmness and relaxation that those acids provide also reduce anxiety.
Consuming Ceylon Black Tea and applying it on the skin reduces the occurrence of acne and pimples on the skin.
Pure Ceylon Black Tea is referred to as tea which is 100% grown and manufactured entirely in Sri Lanka. Tea varities bearing the Lion Logo must also be packed in Sri Lanka. Even though the content of the packaging still can be 100%, in Sri Lanka, the Lion logo cannot be used by overseas importers and distributors.
Ceylon Orange Pekoe is an unbroken whole-leaf tea with long wiry leaves. The OP grade of Ceylon Tea includes varieties such as OPA and OP1 with slight variations in flavour, colour and aroma. Significantly lighter and less astringent, it transforms into a light, pale and aromatic beverage when brewed with a subtle flavour. The OPA version of the tea consists of tea leaves that are slightly open and large with colour and flavour that is more delicate.
A broken leaf tea, which is wirer and medium in length, Ceylon Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) has a full-bodied flavour, a vibrant gold colour, and an aroma with a hint of citrus and a touch of malty flavour. The BOP grade of Ceylon Tea includes off grade varieties including BOP1 and BOPA, made of large leaf pieces.
Made with young tender tea buds and tips, Ceylon Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe (Ceylon FBOP) has a short, slightly wiry, less twisted broken leaf and a few silvery tips too. Consisting of smaller leaves compared to other OP varieties, Browns Plantation Ceylon FBOP quickly brews and has a rich aromatic scent, a reddish colour and a mellow flavour. The FBOP grade of Browns Plantation Ceylon Tea includes an off-grade variety known as FBOP1, which is made of long, twisted, wiry leaves that are fairly tippy.
One of the best teas in the fanning range, Ceylon Flowery Fannings from Browns Plantations consists of leaves that are smaller and similar in size to that of BOPF, with a reasonable number of tips. Ceylon Flowery Fanning is bright in colour and rich and robust in flavour.
Ceylon Flowery Fannings One is a typical robust semi-leaf tippy tea, similar to BOPF but with a firm leaf consisting of little more tips than FBOPF. FBOPF1 from Browns Plantations can be quickly brewed and has a woody scent with a dark reddish colour and tastes a mellow caramel flavour. An ideal grade of Ceylon Tea for those who prefer a full-bodied cup of tea.
Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Fanning’s special is a Ceylon Black Tea type that is similar to FBOPF1 but firm and with more short thin broken leaves and plenty of golden-coloured tips. This premium grade of Ceylon Tea is considered a speciality tea, as it is a tea produced only in small quantities.
A black tea type made using the CTC method of tea manufacturing, Ceylon Broken Pekoe Special Tea from Browns Plantations consists of even curl pieces that, that deliver a robust strong taste.
A Ceylon CTC Tea, Broken Pekoe One (BP1) tea from Browns Plantation consists of tea leaves and tips cut into tiny particles and then curled into smaller granular particles. Ceylon BP1 produces a strong and rich liquor with a full-bodied bright cup.
Produced from the third leaf of the tea plant branch, Broken Pekoe is a Ceylon CTC Tea. It is a strong copper-coloured tea with a fruity aroma. Compared with the other Ceylon Black Tea varieties from Browns Plantations, the Broken Pekoe Leaf has less caffeine and is the most suitable for infusions and flavoured teas.
Another Ceylon CTC Tea from Browns Plantations, Pekoe Fannings One is equivalent in size to grainy high-grown BOPF but is more granular in texture. Bright, brisk and rich in flavour, Ceylon Pekoe Fanning Tea produce a strong and rich flavour for a full-bodied bright cup.
Ideal for commercial brewing, Pekoe Dust is a Ceylon CTC Tea. Our PD tea varieties contain fine granular particles that contain optimum strength and body for a strong flavour and bright copper-coloured brew.
